Q&A: HRT and Transitioning
Welcome to the Q&A. In this video, we're focussing on HRT & Transition.
Transition can sometime be a little scary and daunting, especially when you're first starting. You're just trying to figure yourself out and then you're overloaded with information about medical this and legal that. Hopefully, this Q&A is helpful in some way to answers to some of the questions you might be wanting to ask.
Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is a form of medical care for transgender people who wish bring their physical bodies in alignment with their gender identity. It can include the use of hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, as well as spironolactone, which we discuss in this video.
Some questions in this Q&A are sound being transgender in Cape Town, South Africa. Cape Town has become a city where many queer people can feel safe and accepted. This is largely due to the fact that it has one of the highest LGBTI populations in South Africa, with more than 10% of its inhabitants identifying as part of the community. South Africa also has some of the most progressive laws when it comes to queer and transgender rights, including constitutional rights and protects for transgender people.
If you're considering transitioning, I know that it can be hard to know where to start or what to do. This is why I do the Q&A so that you can ask all you questions here, and I'll do my best to answer them.
