My Transgender Life

🎬 Hi my name is Zoey Black. I’m a transgender woman living in Cape Town, South Africa. I’m a trans rights activists and digital content creator.

🌈 Coming out for me was incredibly hard as there was little to no visible trans representation in South African media, or access to narratives and experiences like mine. And I felt alone and isolated. And so I made a deliberate decision to be transparent and visible in order to make experiences like mine accessible.

🏳️‍🌈 Trans and gender diverse persons of often left at the fringes of society, struggle to access basic services such a shelter, healthcare, education and employment. Under the national lockdown, I decided to dust off my 10 year old camera equipment and start a YouTube channel. And the response has been incredible. The channel and content is really the first of its kind in South Africa, assisting trans and gender diverse persons in accessing a number of essential services and providing inclusive education on social issues. Over the last several weeks, I’ve received overwhelming love and support for the content, which, at its core, works towards the upliftment and visibility of the trans community in South Africa.
