Honest Catch-Up: Breaking the Silence on Transgender Mental Health

The Honest Catch-Up is a recurring segment on the Zoey Black YouTube channel that focuses on mental health and wellbeing. They are raw honest conversations that speak to aspects of identity and health through a queer, trans lens.

Some topics include learning and understanding changes in your body from hormonal therapy, the mental and social difficulty that this presents, issues around anxiety, depression, dysphoria, stigma, discrimination, and learning how to look after yourself.

As a transgender person, mental health and wellbeing is a critical aspect of being in and engaging with the world. With the enormous pressures on trans people, particularly trans women, to conform to a hyper-feminine presentation, the metal agility and resilience to resist this narrative requires information, support and affirmation from within the LGBTQIA+ community, and from broader society.

This video focuses on these themes as an aspect of mental and emotional wellness, and assists the viewer in discovering and affirming themselves in the way they experience themselves. This, hopefully, will help them make better decisions about their lives, and, as a result, support a positive sense of wellness.
